Best in the West Qualifying round 2008

So here it is. My qualifying round. I’ll be honest this did not go how I planned it. Lets watch it while I discuss what was going on up there.

O.k. So the music starts and I begin with a few simple tin tricks just to get me started. The first series of tricks with the pink tin went fine, I Iced up and moved on to a quick two tin exchange behind my back with an arm roll. So far so good. Now I am going for it. I move into my first big series a nice two tin one bottle routine with so nice exchanges, here is where I encountered my first bump in the road. That exchange where the bottle rolls down my arm fell short, it was supposed to roll from my right wrist all the way around to my left wrist were I would do a sweet bottle snatch at the end of the roll. I don’t think I set the bottle spinning hard enough when I let go of it and it didn’t have the juice to complete the circle so the roll fell short, but I didn’t drop the bottle so I just moved with it and kept going no problem. Now on to the Triple sec, that is a Dekuyper 750, one of my favorite bottle. It’s long neck and short body makes it and easy bottle for bumps and stalls, usually. Not here though, that elbow to elbow bump was a little to energetic and I sent that long neck straight to the floor where it bounced around on the concrete a little bit and miraculously did not break. Wow. I guessed that frazzled me a little because the next move, an elbow bump with a redirect, a trick I normally do in my sleep just went to shit on me. What are you gonna do right. So I squeeze what I can out of the trick and move on. Pour the Kami no problem. Next drink, sponsor special. First bottle tin series, pink tin ( easy to see, and it rocks) this goes as planned untill the very end, that bottle tin combo behind the back that went to the floor was supposed to be a stall. Oops. Next up 2 tins one one bottle juggle, went pretty well , that bottle in the tin behind the back is hit or miss, and it missed, fuck, I keep going now this part really bums me our because I missed this 3 object combo to a stall in the same BITW qualifier last year , and I have been nailing it in competitions every where and I really wanted to hit here, I wanted to hit so bad that I even try it again later. So that was a total bummer. On to the juggling, two competitor choice bottle, and a sponsor bottle the Dekuyper750 What happened here? Well I have been doing those cross overs in competitions for the past 3 years and I have never had them collide, so that took me completely off guard, I could not believe the didn’t just explode in mid air. The rest of it is just what it is. Some days your hot and some days your not, I wish I had been that day, but it just didn’t work out that way. You win some you loose some. I lost that one. So now what. Well I am back home and it is raining cats and dogs so I am going to take a flair break for a day or two and them start getting ready for Nations in July. Check back here in the Competitions section for video updates of my routine and my progress toward the next competition. I hope you liked the video even it wasn’t a home run. I will see you all next time.

Sweep throughs

This is a very low risk beginner trick, and it is fun to do.

Flair bar tending can be dangerous, always be careful and never attempt these tricks near another living soul.

Rolling the Tin

This is a real easy trick to learn. Be careful and remember don’t try any trick behind the bar until you are 100% confident.
